Childhood Trauma

Childhood. A beautiful word that draws up images of innocence, tons of happiness, and lots of curiosity. Childhood is a phase of security. It's a feeling of being protected and loved by your family that gives solid and safe relationships later in life. However, the reality of many children experiences and the effect on the rest of their lives is in stark contrast to this idealized expectation. According to the national institute of mental health, childhood trauma is defined as the "Experience of an event by a child that is emotionally painful or distressful, which often results in lasting mental health and physical effects."  Learning how to understand, process, and get along with difficulties, even tragedies is a natural part of a child's development process. But sometimes children get stuck. An experience or repeated experiences may leave a child with an overwhelming sense of fear and loss, making them feel that they have no safety and control over their lives. For ...

Random urge to write!

Every day we find hundreds of people around us. Looking different, walking different, speaking different and behaving completely different. No two people are precisely analogous. Some people treat their neighbours as monsters, Folks who kill others, who blame unnecessarily, who are addicted to drugs, who harras others, who slam kids, who torture their wives, who torture their husbands, who kill their own family, who steal things, who rape others and who always hate others. Who's always irritated, who overthinks a lot, who constantly overreacts, who is unnecessarily rude. And who is even afraid to lose someone? Also, some people treat everyone as their own family, respect everyone, who is kind at heart, who's against all society's so-called evil aspects. Few people can't even stand the thought of something terrible happening even to a stranger.  But as humans, we are busy differentiating people in numerous aspects but forget the fact that each and everyone in...

Sexual Assault In India (Rape is everyone's issue)

Image
We all know that Rape is one of the most prominent crimes in India and a serious issue throughout the world. When we mention this topic, it is assumed to be done against women by a man. But have we ever thought vice versa? In the olden days, Rape is considered a crime solely against women but with time, it has been seen that other genders such as Males, Homosexuals and Transgender communities are also equally affected by this crime. To be precise, Sexual assault can happen to anyone regardless of their age, gender, or sexual attitude. Persons other than a female who has been sexually assaulted or abused may have many of the same feelings and reactions as other survivors of sexual assault, but they may also face some additional challenges because of social attitudes and stereotypes. First of all, We have to accept the fact that the victim and perpetrator of rape can be of any gender and it can take place anywhere. Only after leaving the stereotypical thoughts about the sexu...

BEING A MAN!

Image
" Toughen up "! " Why don't you grow a pair? " We have million different ways of telling men that to actually "Be Men".  But where does this idea come from? By the '70s as people became dillusioned with the corruption of the Indian government, this tough guy trope was reinforced as the angry young man who was fighting an unfair system in movies. While romantic heroes did represent more sensitive masculinity in the 90s and early 2000s.  Box office numbers have shown that the biggest hits throughout the years have still been the dishoom-dishoom action flicks. In our everyday lives the pressure on men to be tough starts as early as school and college, when boys are encouraged to become physically tough with sports and other outdoor activities, and society reinforces what it means to behave "Manly". For instance, studies have shown that men are perceived to be of a lower status or less competent...

NO PERFECT BODY!

Image
In ancient times, women's large bodies were idealized for their childbearing propensity. In the mid-18 century, as food ceased to be a scarce commodity, this association of fat with prosperity waned. At the same time, a growing fascination with classical antiquity made slimmer Greek and roman bodies the ideal European society. In post-world war Europe and America, psychologists perpetuated ideas of overweight women emotionally being disturbed and maladjusted, and thinness became synonymous with women's attractiveness and emotional health. In the Indian subcontinent, the notion of linking bodyweight with prosperity remained strong. Even in the 1960s when the scientific emphasis on obesity accelerated fatphobia in the west, Indian pop culture was idealized well into the 70s and 80s. But in the 90s something changed. As the global fashion industry standards made their mark on India, so did an emphasis on thinness. This only increased in the 2000s, as entire...

ITS OKAY TO FEEL NOT OKAY

Image
Even the strongest girls need love.  They don't like loneliness, they don't like rejection, they don't like being their own hero. They always save their own day, light themselves up, be their own friend and sometimes their biggest fan, but they want to remember what it's like to have someone do that for them every once in a while. Even the strongest girls break down  when they've had enough, when they've been strong for too long and just can't do it anymore. When they can't get out of bed because their hearts are heavy, when they can't think clearly anymore because their minds are scattered and their thoughts are messed up. When they feel like everything they've worked for is falling apart and when they feel like their strength is often their curse and not a blessing. Even the strongest   girls need a break.  They need someone to lead a way. They need to know that they don't have to do this alone. They need to feel that it's o...
